Who are veneers for?
Veneers may be considered for:
- stained or greyish teeth that teeth whitening cannot lighten enough;
- worn, chipped or irregularly shaped teeth;
- small gaps between the front teeth;
- slight misalignment, when orthodontic treatment is not wanted or not needed.
They are not right for everyone. Gum disease, several cavities, badly damaged teeth or heavy grinding need to be dealt with first, or may point to a different solution. When a tooth is badly broken down, a ceramic crown is often more suitable than a veneer.
How treatment works, step by step
1. Consultation and cosmetic assessment
The dentist listens to what bothers you and examines your teeth, your gums and the way your teeth meet. Photos and X-rays complete the assessment. Every option is discussed: veneers, whitening, orthodontics, crowns, or a combination.
2. Planning and mock-up
Before any preparation, the result can be previewed: a resin mock-up placed temporarily over your teeth shows the proposed shape and length so they can be adjusted.
3. Preparation and impression
With local anaesthetic if needed, the enamel is lightly prepared. A digital or conventional impression is taken and the shade is chosen with you. Temporary veneers can be fitted in the meantime.
4. Manufacture
The veneers are made in E-max ceramic from the approved plan. At the clinic, the design is done in exocad.
5. Try-in and bonding
Each veneer is tried in and then bonded with a dedicated adhesive. The dentist checks your bite and the finish.
How many visits, and how long?
As a rough guide:
- 1 assessment appointment, with photos;
- 1 appointment for the plan and mock-up;
- 1 appointment for preparation and impression;
- 1 bonding appointment, followed by a check-up.
Treatment usually takes 2 to 4 weeks. If you need treatment first (cavities, gums) or whitening, allow more time.
Aftercare and advice
- Some mild sensitivity can occur in the first few days.
- Brush twice a day with a low-abrasion toothpaste and clean between your teeth.
- Avoid biting hard objects (nails, pens, stones in fruit) or opening packets with your teeth.
- If you grind your teeth at night, a protective night guard is often recommended.
- Have your veneers checked at your regular visits: a small chip is easier to repair when it is spotted early.

Frequently asked questions
Do veneers damage your teeth?
Some preparation of the enamel is often needed to bond a veneer, even if it is kept to a minimum. This step cannot be undone, which is why veneers are decided after an assessment and not simply to get whiter teeth.
What is a "Hollywood smile"?
The term refers to veneers on several visible teeth to harmonise their shape and shade. The result should still suit your face, your gums and your bite, so the number of veneers and the shade are discussed case by case.
How long do ceramic veneers last?
With good care they can last many years. A veneer can still crack or come off, especially with tooth grinding or an accident, so no lifespan can be guaranteed.
Can veneers be whitened?
No, ceramic does not change colour with whitening. If you plan to whiten your other teeth, this is done before the veneer shade is chosen.
Do you offer composite veneers?
Yes, we offer composite veneers in some special cases at the clinic.
